Unique Alphington riverside transformation

Designed by Mark Meaden Architecture and Interiors, this 1920s weatherboard has undergone a two-stage transformation into a unique home that cleverly blends its original Art Deco character with a number of striking modern additions.

The first stage involved extending the existing home to incorporate a large family kitchen, a light-filled study and a rebuild of the front verandah that allowed the owners to enjoy views of the Yarra tree-line. The second stage involved a major excavation under the home to create a large and modern apartment for the owners adult children to live in. This space incorporated sweeping curved bulkheads (to tie in with the main home) and a mix of innovative materials (stone, timber, copper and concrete).

“ Geoff has been a pleasure to work with over two major house renovations. He is always willing to communicate and resolve any issue that arrises during the building process. Patient, professional communicative his hard-working employees were a pleasure to have around. It’s hard to find a builder that you can trust and rely on, however Geoff is one that I have and will continue to recommend to any of my friends without any hesitation. ”
